I love me some flavored sausage. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not hating on straight up sausage but there’s something about the combo of sweet and savory sausage that makes me happy. That should make you happy too because I’m about to share one of our new favorite things to hit a breakfast plate…Apple Jalapeno Breakfast Sausage!
One day after looking for apple sausage, I lamented over the loss of these jalapeno cheese sausages from our local grocery. Well, why couldn’t I combine my love for both and make them myself? Thus began my Sunday brunch experiment and it was one Mr. Kringle was all too happy to help me taste test. Now your girl wasn’t about to go out and get pig casings and go legit on the links but patties are doable and frankly what I prefer anyway. Double win! So let’s get these bad boys on your brunch plate too! The video shows you how to bring it all together and what the recipe should look like in different stages.

Apple Jalapeno Breakfast Sausage
Notes
If using honey, make sure to cook over medium heat and keep an eye as it caramelizes quicker than maple syrup.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground pork
- 2 tbsp apple cider or juice
- 1 jalapeno, diced
- 1 granny smith apple, diced
- 1/4 tsp pie spice
- 1/2 tsp poultry seasoning
- 1/4-1/2 tsp Berbere seasoning (sub cayenne)
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4-1/2 tsp ground black pepper
- 1 ounce shredded cheese, (I used pepper jack)
- 1 tbsp maple syrup or honey
Instructions
- Add 2 tbsp of apple cider to a skillet on medium heat.
- Add your diced jalapeno, diced apple, and pie spice. Stir to incorporate. Allow it to stew down slightly but not get mushy.
- In a large bowl, add your ground pork.
- Add ½ tsp of poultry seasoning, ¼-½ tsp of berbere , a few dashes of nutmeg, ½ tsp garlic powder, fresh black pepper to taste, you can use 1 tbsp of honey or maple syrup, and 1 ounce of shredded pepper jack cheese.
- Add your cooled apple jalapeno mix and mix until well combined.
- Form pork into a ball and press it to your preferred thickness.
- Place in skillet over medium high heat.
- Cook for 3-4 minutes on each side depending the thickness.
- Move finished ones to a paper towel lined plate while you fry them all.
