If you haven’t tried Nashville Hot Chicken yet, you are missing a spicy chicken lovers treat.  A lot of grocery stores are even starting to carry hot chicken spices to save you the time of putting together a rub.  Legendary hot chicken places like Prince’s and Hattie B’s in Nashville rule the trend and you know when it goes national at places like KFC that they’re on to something.  (For the record, KFC’s are actually just as good if not better than some of the hipster hot chicken places we’ve been to.  We were pretty surprised!)   But what happens when you’re craving a country breakfast classic with a spicy kick?  Nashville Hot Chicken Fried Steak!

Sur La Table

Cayenne pepper give the main kick but to someone like me, this recipe gives a moderate heat level.  I love spicy foods but not to the point of burning off your tastebuds and then you can’t taste anything for hours.  I like something that leaves a nice little tingle on the lips but is easily washed away with a swig of water and that’s what I get with this recipe.  What else helps cut heat?  Gravy, of course!

Cube steak is incredibly economical so something that tastes this awesome can actually be done on the cheap.  I think we can all get on board with that!  If you have people who aren’t into the hot thing, you can always omit the cayenne and double the smoked paprika.  The video shows you how to bring it all together and what the recipe should look like in different stages.
