If summer roared in like a lion where you are like it did for us, you want something to cool you down…stat! There is nothing that can both quench your thrist as well as cool your core temp in a flash like Italian Ice. If you’re making homemade Italian ice, there’s usually some fruit and water and sugar involved and that’s all well and good. But if you’re looking for a “dump and freeze” method that takes the work out of it for you, then this recipe is for you!
I used mango lemonade because…yum! The cool thing about this is you can basically make any flavor you want since there are so many juices and lemonades out there! If you use a thicker juice like orange, it’ll have the mouth feel of sorbet. A more clear beverage like a lemonade or apple juice will give you a lighter “ice” effect which is just what you’re going for. If you’re serving it at dinner time and want to be all fancy pants, call it a granita and you’ll never have to tell how easy it was. (Oh and don’t use the term “dump and freeze”…it takes away your street cred.)
The video shows you how to bring it all together and what the recipe should look like in different stages.

Notes
To prevent melting too quickly, freeze ramekins before serving as well. You can also scoop and place ramekins back in the freezer for 10 minutes if you want them to all be the same temperature if serving 4+ people.
Ingredients
- Mango Lemonade (or juice/beverage of your choice)
- 13x9 pan
- Whisk
- Spoon
- Ramekin/small bowls
Instructions
- Pour lemonade into 13x9 pan. (If you don't trust yourself to not spill on the way to the freezer, place the pan on a flat surface in the freezer first and then pour)
- If the lemonade is room temperature, check after 90 minutes. (After 60 minutes for refrigerated)
- Stir with a whisk when small ice chunks are starting to form and check/stir every 30 minutes until the consistency is scoopable but not frozen solid.
- If you freeze it solid, allow to thaw in the fridge until it reaches a consistency where you can scrape it with a spoon or fork. (Usually 45 minutes)
- Serve immediately in a small ramekin.

That does sound easy. Looks good!
It’s so good and all kinds of flavor possibilities!
OMG DOES THIS LOOK GOOD.
It’s like, 190 degrees (it is) here and humidity is like 189% (it is), so I need this.
To put down my shirt.
Also to eat.
It’s the same here so I vote we just dump some in our bras and cool down as well as have a convenient serving bowl(s). 🙂
I love all the summer ices and ice creams – Thanks for sharing at the What’s for Dinner party. Hope your week is fantastic.
Saved your recipe for use at our cabin where it’s hard to get ice cream from town without melting on the way. – Margy

Oh my it sure was good & I probably haven’t had any since then. I have got to try your recipe. Thanks so much for sharing.

Has anyone ever used an Ice Cream Maker to make Italian Ice? How long does it take? Will it “keep” in the container till ready to serve?
I haven’t myself but maybe someone else reading has so they can feel free to comment.
