Do you ever walk into someone’s house that is expecting company and are overwhelmed with the smell of fake trees or faux pumpkin spice? For someone with a sensitive sniffer like me, it can be overwhelming and headache inducing. I would certainly never say anything to someone but it gives the impression they’re trying to cover something up rather than welcome you.
This easy, natural potpourri is a throwback to my childhood when I used to read about it in magazines all of the time. Potpourri isn’t really the right term for it so I just call it “natural air freshener” and you only need three ingredients to make your house smell like cozy holiday heaven. Just make sure you are able to pay attention to it since it can’t be unattended.
You’ll need:
Orange or clementine peels (I save clementine peels in a ziptop bag during the week)
Whole cloves
Cinnamon Sticks
Do it once and see if you got back to the canned stuff. See the video on how to make the scent last and safety tips.

This smells like my childhood. That is all.
Mission accomplished!
I’ve done something similar and it really does make the house smell amazing! I did, however, have one mishap where I put spices in a pot of water and I forgot about it. All the good smells turned into burnt smells and an almost ruined pot so I haven’t done it since then! Oops!
Doesn’t it though!? Yep, I think we’ve all been there which is why I made sure to mention it. LOL (I think I caught mine one year just before it crusted) No one likes the smell of burnt orange even if probably make a candle with the same name!
Love that cinnamon smell in kitchen.
You know it!

I used to do this in our old house an hour or so before we had any showings for selling it. I love how homey the scent came make a home feel.
It definitely gives that homey feel without being overbearing. It’s more like you walk in and are like “ooh, what’s baking!?”
Just reading this makes me want to run to the store! Happy Holidays to All!
Do it now! It’s gonna be crazy this weekend! 😀
This smells very nice. Once my friend gave me one jar of this. I boiled that on Christmas morning.
It adds such a great ambiance to an already great day!
I bet this smells amazing. It would be perfect to use on one of my cold, snowy days as well as the holidays. Thanks for sharing on Sunday’s Best.
It’s good any time of year for sure! I’ve been bagging my clementine peels this week to simmer some tomorrow!
