I love making the hubby different vinaigrettes even if I’m not the biggest fan of them myself. (Except Trader Joe’s Bacon Onion Vinaigrette but I’d better learn how to make that at home because y’all know their M.O is to let you fall in love then discontinue it.) I tried red grapefruit again for the first time in about 20 years and let the other half sit around. While red grapefruit isn’t his first choice, I knew if I could find a good balance of citrus, sweet and heat that it could be pretty awesome. I just so happened to have a habanero aging in the fridge and this vinaigrette was born.
There is only 1/4 of the habanero used and I honestly think it mellows over time but if you’re wary, just use 1/2 of a seeded jalapeno. I love being able to use ingredients I already have on hand and it gets the hubby out of a dressing rut since he eats salads for lunch on the daily. This stores well in a mason jar in the fridge for 10-14 days. Just give it a shake before you use it.

This is the first time I am seeing a vinaigrette using a grapefruit and it sounds amazing to me. I bet this would be a perfect dressing to any salad! Thank you for bringing at Fiesta Friday party.
It brings a great citrus kick without using lemon or lime (but either could work if you don’t have grapefruit on hand!)
I love grapefruit, but never thought about using it for salad dressing. I am going to try this one out. Happy St. Patrick’s Day, Kippi #kippiathome
ps. I am pinning it too.
Honestly, I hadn’t either until I saw that grapefruit half sitting there and I’ll be darned if it didn’t work perfectly!
This sounds so yummylicious! I’m surely going to try this out, once I get my hands on some grapefruit! 🙂
I hope you love it! It’s so easy to make!
That sounds right up my alley. Looks great!
Thanks so much! I hope you like it as much as we do!
i’m loving the idea of grapefruit used like this! I can’t wait to try it out! found you at totally terrific tuesday link party by the way!
So glad you stopped by and I hope you enjoy it if you give it a try!
I never would have thought of combining anything spicy with grapefruit. It’s good to try something new.
It’s a very subtle heat (and we find habanero tends to mellow with age). You could certainly use jalapeno or poblano in its place.
Yes please! I’d love this! I got grapefruit essential oil to smell it more in my diffuser. I love the smell and taste.
If you’re a grapefruit fan, I think you’re going to love this for sure!
Grapefruit… yes this would be awesome in a vinaigrette. Thanks for this recipe. I might leave the sugar out, as one reason I make my own dressings is to avoid the sugar. (Which, for me, often includes the taste.)
You can try it but the sugar is the balancer or it might be incredibly tart. You can use coconut sugar for a low glycemic option too.
What a lovely idea for a vinaigrette. I love to spice up my salads adding a gorgeous vinaigrette totally transforms a boring salad into what feels like a naughty treat (but it’s not!)
It sure does! I always whip one up when the hubby gets burned out on the bottled stuff.
Ok I am definitely saving this recipe to use later when we start BBQ’ing again in the summer. I love spicy things. Thanks for sharing this post with us at #OMHGWW!
It would also be a great marinade for steaks and fish too!
I like the choice of grapefruit juice for the vinaigrette. I think I’d wimp out on the habaneros, though, and substitute jalapenos. Thanks for sharing with us at Creatively Crafty. We’ve just started a Facebook group called Creatively Crafty Showcase and you’re invited to join us! It’s another way to share this post and just about anything creative plus we’ll have opportunities to interact/support each other. Hope to see you soon!
Jalapenos or even poblanos would be good with it as well!
