I don’t know if any of you are old enough to remember the beer bread craze in the 80’s and 90’s but a certain home party company made it a staple in our homes. I remember mom adding a can of beer or Sprite to it, stirring and boom, instant accolades! While this mix is still available, it’s $11 and that’s just too much for me to pay for a loaf of bread. I’m thinking paying about a quarter of the price is more up my alley and it tastes amazing!
Pumpkin puree gives a beautiful color and subtle flavor and spicy ginger ale gives a gorgeous hint of flavor that makes this bread perfect for breakfast or as a vehicle to sop up some sauce at dinner. The cinnamon honey butter is an amazing complement to add another layer of fall flavor!

Ingredients
For the bread
- 3 cups self-rising flour
- 1 to 4 tablespoons regular or maple sugar, to taste
- 1 1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice
- 4 tablespoons browned or melted butter
- 1 cup high quality ginger ale, complimentary carbonated beverage or beer
- 1/2 cup pumpkin puree
For the butter
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1 tbsp honey
- 1 tsp cinnamon
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F.
- Mix the flour, sugar, 4 tablespoons of the melted/brown butter butter, and the beer, stirring until fairly smooth; it will likely have some small lumps.
- Grease a 9" x 5" loaf pan.
- Spoon the batter into the buttered pan, smoothing the top so it bakes evenly.
- Bake the bread for 45 - 50 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into the middle of the loaf comes out clean. (No raw dough stuck to it)
- Remove the bread from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes turn it out onto a rack to cool.
- Wait until the bread cools completely before slicing.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature.

I’m planning to make some pumpkin bread today. It’s that time of year. My mom had a great recipe that she loved to make. She went home to be with the Lord last a year ago and I’m going to miss having it.
